The staggered finite-difference method

Maple

One-dimension Problem

utvx=0,vtux=0.\frac{\partial u}{\partial t} – \frac{\partial v}{\partial x} =0, \quad \frac{\partial v}{\partial t} – \frac{\partial u}{\partial x} =0.

Let us start with a 1d model problem for acoustic problem. (Please See Ref. 1)

Two-dimension Problem

Similarly, We have:

ut(vx+vy)=0\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}-(\frac{\partial v}{\partial x}+\frac{\partial v}{\partial y})=0
